A NEW WORLD (TEN contest) by moonxels A NEW WORLD (TEN contest) by moonxels
This was my entry for the TEN (X) challenge back at [link]
my entry submited very late, like 3 days before closure (mainly because the lack of a good idea!) it was done very quickly and is lacking in some places, but I kinda like it anyway!:)

EDIT: the theme of the contest was TEN, so please no references to planet X , as it's a 10 written in Roman mumeral.
Also I know nothing about some planet X, thanks.

another joke about a treasure on a map or planet X and I'll remove that image, it's just so annoying, I get the joke already!

We conveniently placed a marker on the planet, Sir. All you need to do is aim the Giant Planetpulverising Lazor of Doom and press the button, at your leisure.

This is actually cool to think about; To create this shape, you would need minimum of 8 tectonic plates of which 4 are sinking and 4 are rising, this creating a X-shaped landmass, divided in 8 sections by 4 volcanically active tectonic ridges, easily the height of the Himalayas. But since there's no snow, this might imply a different kind of atmosphere, lacking a cold layer at the 4 to 10 km range, thereby creating a continious hypertrophical climate, except above the enormous mono-ocean around it perhaps. This would indicate an arrid dessert-climate, making survival extremely difficult.

They had bad luck in their search for a next home :P

Then I take it Pokemon X jokes are off-limits as well.

Oh well, this is a very beautiful piece and I hope it does well in the contest.

I love this! it's a stunning visual! it feel like, to me at least, like the person is envisioning the X on the planet, for some special reason.

Planet X jokes? I didn't even know that was possible... Unless I am totally as clueless as you are about it, and people are not joking about the dwarf planet Eris...

ARRRRR, the great space pirate Captain Osmium buried his vast hoard of Elerium-115 on this planet, right under the roman numeral ten!!! :) Now we go to dig it up, just hope there aren't any alien pirate zombies around...

Sorry, couldn't resist. :) You rendered the planet beautifully. This reminds me of the old idea that we could draw big triangles in the desert to attract the attention of Martians or other passing aliens.

I'm beginning to be so fed up by all those planet X, and pirate jokes, almost to the point that I will have to remove it...

Sorry, man, I didn't mean to upset you. ^^; I did refrain from any "planet X" jokes. But, if you stick a giant "X" right on a planet, the first thing people will think of are space pirates and buried treasure. Don't remove it, though, it is a beautiful portrait of a planet!! If you really feel the need to eliminate the opportunity for the planet X jokes you can always remove or paint over the X and upload it just as a painting of a planet.

A good way to avoid the jokes in the first place while having a "ten" theme would have been to come up with some imaginary tenth planet in our solar system, which would mean there would also have to be a ninth because Pluto was demoted to a planetoid. Then, the planet would have a "ten" theme with no pirate jokes. It is an open question whether anyone would get it, though...

well it's not a pure illustration but a contest , so there are rules to follow and an idea to convey, knowing nothing about a planet X , that was my idea...that's about it.

It's ingrained into popular culture. Blame Looney Toons and bad pirate flicks.

En tout cas ces commentaires montrent une chose : mettre un gros X sur une planète n'est peut être pas la meilleure solution pour représenter la 10eme planète :p
